HISTORY OF PHNOM PENH
Phnom Penh City was first established in 21st century Buddhist Era, 15tfi century A.D., in the reign of Preah Borom Reachea (King Ponhea Yat) who was Preah Srey Soryapor, when his majesty abandoned the Angkor palace and moved to set up a new palace in Tuol Basan in Srey Sar Chhor province, presently called Srey Santhor district, kampong Cham province. |

However, Tuol Basan region where the palace was built was flooded in every rainy season. For one year of residence there, his majesty moved to build up a new city at the four-front river, which is called" Phnom Penh in 1434 A.D.
There were two stages in the establishment process of the palace in Phnom Penh city: - 1st: in 15 th century, reign of Preah bat Ponhea Yat, unsustainable; - 2nd: in 19 th century, reign of Preah Bat : Norodom, sustainable, |

The reason that the establishment of Phnom Penh city was done in 2 stages was that after the 1st establishment, from 1434 A.D, to 1491 A.D. the palace was established in Angkor area, then moved to Pursat, to Boribo, to Longvek,. Oudong, and then moved back to Phnom Penh for the second time in 1865 A.D. and settled there up to the present.
